Stromae put on a killer show at Mill City Nights on 9/25/14

I’m not going to lie, going into this show I did not know what to expect. Stromae is a European hip hop / electronic / dance artist . I work at Mill City Nights as a stage hand , and I just happened to be on the schedule to work this show. I got asked to photograph it while I was there so I figured hey, why not? When we were setting up the stage with lights and equipment I knew it would be a fun show. Aside from the many moving heads and the two custom light fixtures setting the scene at center stage, there was a white backdrop being hit by a projector near front of house. The backdrop made for a very interesting visual experience throughout the show.

I couldn’t understand a word they were saying (I know, I know, typical ignorant Americans) but watching the show was incredible. And the crowd, oh the crowd. They were going ape shit. I think I may have blew an ear drum not from the sounds coming from the stage, but from the sound of over a thousand screaming fans. And this wasn’t your typical fan cheering either.. holy shit, they were LOUD. After photographing the first three songs I stepped outside to give my ears a break. The ringing set in and I decided I wouldn’t be coming back until I found ear plugs. I ended up getting some from one of the friendly security guards enjoying their 10 minute break.

All in all, a solid experience. It was really cool to see something so outside the culture I am usually absorbed with.
